Dr. Eve, Zombie Killer: Part 3 EXCERPT: Dr. Eve, Zombie Killer: Part 3 Derek opened another video file. Dr. Hanes appeared again. He had a more haggered, worried, look. He was noticeably thinner. “My suspicions about overfeeding the subjet appear to be true. It's too powerful to keep alive. I've tried to euthenize it. The usual methods have not worked. Air embolus injected. No effect. Potassium bolus to stop the heart. No effect. Feeding it cyanide-poisoned meat. No effect.” Behind him thrashing and snarling sounds filled the white room. Dr. Hanes turned to look over his shoulder. In the lower right side of the frame, a cage was built into a recess in the wall. At one time it was probably meant to house a large dog, or primate. Perhaps a baboon. Now it held a once human figure. Naked. Angry. And straining at the bars. “The last method, poisoned meat: bad idea. Calculations based on strength changes derived from my earlier measures suggest it's stength will grow over the next few hours to such a degree it will break out of its cell. I've got to figure out a way to kill it. Soon.” Dr. Hanes stared intently into the camera. “Dr. Eve, if you find this –” The creature suddenly went nuts. It howled, shook the bars, and rattled the cage. Its arms reached through the bars suddenly and slashed at Dr. Hanes. The once human fingertips were now capped with short, thick, claws. The arms disappeared inside the cage and the thing rammed itself loudly against the walls. Again and again it thudded with great power into walls which threatened to buckle. “Mel, if you find this, and it hasn't breached the safe-room lab in my wine cellar, kill it!” Dr. Hanes yelled over the berserk animal. “Kill the damned thing!” BOOK PAGE AUTHOR PAGE PRODUCTS PAGE
